Needlepoint is having a moment — and rightfully so! Like so many crafts, needlepoint is great for cognitive health, stress relief, focus and mood-boosting. It’s screen-free, and you can bring a needlepoint project with you anywhere. You’ll never be bored again.
Whether you've never held a needle before or just need a refresher, you are sure to walk away from this beginner class with a newfound love for needlework, and the beginning of a cute project.
In this workshop with Kelly Shires (@thestitchingnurse), you'll start on a simple design that can later be finished as a key fob, paperweight or bookmark. Or just consider it a practice canvas until you’re ready for your first real project.
This class includes a beginner needlepoint kit with everything you need to get started — a $100+ value! (And needlepoint supplies are in high demand right now and sold out in many stores, so let us do the legwork and gather everything for you.) Your kit will include:
Hand-painted/stitch-painted needlepoint canvas
Threads (choose from pink, green or blue with white when you register)
Scissors
Needle
Seam ripper
Project bag
Beginner instruction booklet, complete with how-tos, plus links to needlepoint stores and resources
Also included:
Optional beginners Whatsapp chat for real-time troubleshooting with the instructor if you get stuck after you leave the workshop.
Discussion of finishing techniques, and ideas and resources for finishing projects.
Come ready to learn and fall in love with this new hobby.
About the instructor
Kelly Shires is a registered nurse, mom of three, and a needlepointer for 10 years. She learned to stitch in high school and fell in love. Craving an in-person community for needlepoint, not just the booming online community, she started a stitch club in Montgomery County in 2024. MocoStitchClub has more than 100 members of different ages and experience levels, and meets a few times a month. See Kelly’s stitching on Instagram (@thestitchingnurse) and check out MocoStitchClub (@mocostitchclub).
This workshop is open to crafters ages 16 and older.
