Community Mah Jongg Open Play

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 14+
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Whether you learned Mah Jongg in one of our workshops or you've been playing for years we hope you'll join us for open play community games in our workshop space on the second Thursday of every month.

Please note: This is not a learn-to-play workshop! You should be familiar with the fundamental tenets of American Mah Jongg, including identifying suits, how to read the card and basic gameplay. You do not need to be an expert by any means, but we will not be teaching new players at these events. Of course, friendly assistance is always provided.

All levels are welcome, as long as you know the basics — when you register, you’ll be asked about your experience so we can plan tables accordingly. Even if your only experience (so far!) is in our workshops or some casual lessons with friends, there is a spot for you at our tables.

If you have a card, please bring it. We’ll have cards to lend if you don’t have one. We will provide tile sets, though you're welcome to bring yours to share.

Snacks will be provided. Obviously.

This workshop is open to players ages 14 and older.

Galaxy-Themed Shoe Painting

Galaxy-Themed Shoe Painting

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 10 to adult (under 13 with an adult)
Led by: Susan Duren (@susanspiration)

Susan Duren of Susanspiration (@susanspiration) will share her signature galaxy pattern, perfect for beginners or anyone who wants a relaxing evening of painting. Crafters will learn color blending techniques, and other helpful tips for painting shoes. Participants will even have the option of making their shoes glow in the dark at no extra cost. Just bring a pair of shoes, and Susan will provide the rest.

IMPORTANT: In order for the paint provided for this workshop to stick to the surface, SHOES MUST BE CANVAS.

Think:

  • Vans

  • Converse

  • Keds

They don’t have to be big-name brands. Walmart sells cheap canvas shoes that work great. NO ATHLETIC SHOES, AIR FORCE ONES, OR ANYTHING LEATHER. If the surface is slick, the paint will not stick.

Also note that paint will probably stick to some material such as mesh, crochet or suede. However, those surfaces are not recommended. For this paint blending technique, canvas is best.

Susan has a BFA with an emphasis in painting. She has been painting shoes for a little over 10 years. She loves Crayola, color theory, cats, surprise toys, celebrating events, mimosas with brunch, ’90s nostalgia, pizza, miniatures, laughing, and of course her beloved cat, Maya.

You can find her on Etsy, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook using @Susanspiration, and on TikTok at @susanspirationart.

Crafters as young as 10 are welcome to attend, but any participant under 13 but must be accompanied by an adult.

Intro to Needlepoint

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 16 to adult
Led by: Kelly Shires (@thestitchingnurse)

Needlepoint is having a moment — and rightfully so! Like so many crafts, needlepoint is great for cognitive health, stress relief, focus and mood-boosting. It’s screen-free, and you can bring a needlepoint project with you anywhere. You’ll never be bored again.

Whether you've never held a needle before or just need a refresher, you are sure to walk away from this beginner class with a newfound love for needlework, and the beginning of a cute project.

In this workshop with Kelly Shires (@thestitchingnurse), you'll start on a simple design that can later be finished as a key fob, paperweight or bookmark. Or just consider it a practice canvas until you’re ready for your first real project.

This class includes a beginner needlepoint kit with everything you need to get started — a $100+ value! (And needlepoint supplies are in high demand right now and sold out in many stores, so let us do the legwork and gather everything for you.) Your kit will include:

  • Hand-painted/stitch-painted needlepoint canvas

  • Threads (choose from pink, green or blue with white when you register)

  • Scissors

  • Needle

  • Seam ripper

  • Project bag

  • Beginner instruction booklet, complete with how-tos, plus links to needlepoint stores and resources

DIY Prize Ribbons

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 14 to adult
Led by: Becky Sher, Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

You deserve an award! But don’t wait around for someone else to give you one — we’ll help you make one for yourself. Or maybe you  could bestow a prize on someone in your life who’s earned a little extra recognition. OR simply commemorate a favorite phrase, quote or lyric in a fun and crafty way.

You’ll use wool felt, ribbon, beads, sequins and lots of other fun embellishments from our stash to make your ribbon. We’ll teach you a few simple stitching techniques, like blanket stitch and running stitch, but don’t worry, they’re not difficult, and frankly, you can skip them if you want. Mostly, you’ll play with color and texture until you’ve created a well-deserved award for yourself or a loved one.

The workshop includes:

  • Wool-blend felt in a rainbow of colors for the base of your prize ribbon.

  • Beads and sequins to spell out your phrase and add some extra sparkle.

  • Ribbons, trims and other embellishments for even more pizazz.

  • A needle, thread, scissors, glue and everything else you’ll need.

  • A brooch pin so you can proudly wear your award (or pin it to your bag). If you’d prefer to display your ribbon on a wall, cabinet knob, bulletin board, etc., we’ll show you how to do that too.

  • Instructions, tips, inspiration and friendly chitchat.

Bring some ideas for what you want your ribbon to say, and we’ll provide the rest!

We’ve been waiting for this one — it’s time to celebrate summer! Join us at our June Open Studio for craft projects themed to the season of sunshine.

If you’ve never come to our Open Studio events, here’s a quick rundown: We set up project stations that you can explore at your own pace. Minimal instruction, maximum creativity. We try to plan projects that are open-ended so you can craft your way, but we provide plenty of samples and inspiration. While we encourage families to craft together, these workshops are NOT just for kids. If you need a burst of creative joy in your week, you’ve found it. And in case you’re wondering, we have plenty of crafters who come at 10:01 and leave at 12:59 — we’re happy for you to craft as long as you like.

Intro to Kinusaiga

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 16+
Led by: Stacey Hammer, Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

In this engaging, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore kinusaiga (pronounced “key-new-sigh-ga”), a modern Japanese art form that transforms simple fabric scraps into stunning, textured works of art. By gently tucking fabric into pre-cut grooves on a foam board, you’ll create a richly layered design that resembles a fabric “painting” or quilt.

Relax, unwind, and tap into your creativity as you play with color, pattern, and texture. Whether you’re new to crafting or a seasoned maker, kinusaiga offers a meditative, hands-on experience with impressive results — think florals, landscapes, animals, or abstract designs, all brought to life with fabric.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the essentials — how to work with your template, choose and coordinate fabrics, and use simple tools to build your design piece by piece.

Your workshop ticket includes:

  • A two-hour instructor-guided workshop

  • A 6- by 6-inch “sunburst” pattern pre-cut onto a foam base;

  • All tools and a large selection of fabrics

  • An optional 6-inch white square shadow box frame is available at registration for an additional $12.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Crafters under 4 are free, but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Needlepoint Monogram Bag Charms

Needlepoint Monogram Bag Charms

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 14 to adult
Led by: Becky Sher, Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Needlepoint is the darling of the craft world right now, and we’ve happily jumped on the bandwagon. Our sold-out intro to needlepoint workshop in February was a big success, and we plan to teach another one just as soon as needlepoint canvas is back in stock … anywhere.

Luckily, there are lots of ways to stitch, so we’d love to introduce you to needlepoint via a less expensive and super-satisfying medium — plastic canvas! In this workshop, you’ll practice techniques that you can eventually apply to more traditional needlepoint canvas and patterns. You’ll learn the classic continental stitch to create a monogram on plastic canvas. Turn it into a bag charm or a magnet, and then make another! It’s quick, satisfying and a little bit addictive.

In the workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How needlepoint differs from other needlework, like cross stitch and embroidery (and how it’s the same!).

  • How to work the continental stitch, one of the most common needlepoint stitches.

  • How to read a needlepoint pattern.

  • How to create needlepoint projects using different materials — in this case, plastic canvas and tapestry wool.

  • How to finish your stitching into a bag charm or magnet.

All materials are included:

  • Plastic canvas and tapestry wool (enough to make several monograms).

  • A tapestry needle.

  • Handy notions like tiny scissors and a needle threader.

  • Hardware to finish your project as a bag charm or magnet.

  • Pattern for the entire alphabet, and a heart.

  • No experience necessary — come see what all the fuss is about! Open to crafters 14 to adult.

Tween Night

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 9 to 13
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Don’t tell everyone else who visits our workshop, but tweens are some of our favorite people to craft with. So we decided to set aside a night just for them — to craft, make new friends (or hang with old ones) and of course … eat.

Kids ages 9 to 13 are invited for an evening of crafts, pizza and just hanging out. Bring a pal, or come alone and meet other kids who love to craft. We’ll supply pizza, snacks and a soundtrack, plus cool projects using lots of fun supplies and techniques. We’ll set up crafting stations like we do for our monthly Open Studio events so kids can explore at their own pace. (Expect bedazzling, some cool beaded accessories we’ve never offered before, and more.)

This IS a drop-off event; we’ll ask for adult contact info at registration.

April Open Studio

Duration: 3 hours
Ages: all ages
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Spring is finally springing, so we thought plants and flowers would be the perfect theme for our April Open Studio.

This month’s spring-themed projects include:

  • A collage garden that will bloom for years.

  • Beaded plant stakes to add pizazz to your greenery.

  • A hanging decoration for your wall or window.

  • And more!

Our monthly plea: If possible, please buy your tickets ahead of time. It’s a bit cheaper, but mostly, it helps us to plan our materials so we don’t leave any crafters without supplies (or prep way too much!). We know it’s not always possible to plan ahead, but if you can, it helps us make Open Studio the best experience for everyone!

Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. Crafters under 4 are free, but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

This is not a drop-off event. All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Mah Jongg Open Play

Duration: 2 hours
Ages:

Crochet Next Steps: Granny Squares

Crochet Next Steps: Granny Squares

Duration: 2½ hours
Ages: 12 to adult (with basic crochet knowledge)
Led by: Becky Sher (@createatlocallycrafted)

If you’ve never made a granny square, can you even call yourself a crocheter?! In this advanced beginner workshop, you’ll learn to crochet the classic granny square, which can be used in so many different ways. Even a single granny square makes a cute coaster or wall hanging, so don’t feel like you need to make a whole blanket’s worth in your first attempt. :)

You’ll practice crocheting in the round (instead of back and forth in rows), which is the foundation for many crochet projects, including the popular amigurumi plush characters that you see everywhere.

Please note: This workshop is not for crafters who have never picked up a hook. You should be fairly comfortable with creating a slip knot, making chain stitches, and working single and double crochet stitches. We will do a quick review of the basics, but this workshop is not for absolute beginners. Please watch for our introductory crochet workshops or schedule a private lesson to prepare for this workshop!

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How to read a crochet pattern.

  • How to crochet in the round, including making a magic ring or creating a chain circle to start.

  • How to change colors so you can make a multicolored square.

  • How to weave in your ends (every crocheter’s least favorite part of a granny square).

  • Ideas for granny square projects — including some that require only a single square! And tips on working granny “squares” in different shapes.

All materials are included, but if you have yarn lying around, feel free to bring it, along with a matching hook. Granny squares are the ultimate scrap buster!

This workshop is for crafters 12 to adult, with basic crochet knowledge.

Needle-Felted Easter Eggs

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 10 to adult (under 13 with an adult)
Led by: E. Foley (@foleysdogtraining)

Craft your own Easter decorations in this beginner-friendly needle-felting workshop with instructor E. Foley (@foleysdogtraining).

Needle felting lets you get out your frustrations by stabbing wool with a barbed needle to create art. In this workshop, you will make three custom Easter eggs. Display them in a basket or bowl for a festive seasonal decoration. Ambitious crafters can try a bunny or a chick.

Each student will receive:

  • Three barbed needles (and band-aids if needed ☺️)

  • Three pre-made wool eggs in a natural white color to use as your canvas

  • Wool in a rainbow of colors to decorate your eggs

  • A foam felting pad

  • Printed instructions and tips for making your project shine!

This  workshop is for crafters ages 10 to adult. For children, ask yourself,  "Would I trust my child with a sharp, barbed needle?" If you would, they  can come! Under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Mini Craft Room Trinket Shelf

Mini Craft Room Trinket Shelf

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 7 to adult (under 11 with adult)
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

March is National Craft Month! (Of course we celebrate crafts every month, but far be it from us to ignore a craft-related holiday.) This seems like the perfect time to try a little twist on our popular mini bookcase project — a mini craft room trinket shelf! All the tiny cuteness of our bookcases, but with some new miniature materials to play with.

Fill your shelf with teeny craft supplies, as well as the books, plants and other tiny items you’ve loved in our previous workshops. We’re using a slightly different shelf base this time, so you can try some new ideas. (No one is forcing you to create a craft room, BTW. All that’s required is a love of tiny things and some creativity.)

This workshop includes:

  • A 6-by-4-inch bookcase ready for you to customize and embellish. (A little more vertical space for you to play with!)

  • Lots of tiny craft supplies! Fill jars with mini buttons and pompoms, create teeny knitting needles or pencils, and make miniature bolts of fabric. We’ll have little scraps of felt and tiny coloring pages. Wait until you see the incredibly small embroidery hoops!

  • Plenty of other miniature decorative items like coffee mugs, plants and more.

  • A buffet of supplies so you can embellish your shelves; create items like potted plants or flowers in vases; or whatever else you can dream up to make your perfect crafting space.

  • Don’t forget to raid your own craft supplies for tiny pieces you can add to make it your own.

This workshop is open to crafters ages 7 and up, but kids under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet & Make: Clip, Stick & Sip

Duration: 90 minutes
Ages: 18+
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

We’ve seen the connections that crafters are making spontaneously in our workshops, so we thought, “why not do it on purpose?” Making friends as an adult can be … tricky, but it’s a lot easier when you’re bonding over a fun, creative activity.

And that’s the goal behind our Meet and Make workshops. We invite you to come alone or bring a friend or two for some low-key crafting and chatting.

We’ve caught the bedazzling bug, so we thought that would be the perfect project for a casual night of creativity. Join us to add some sparkle to hair clips and vinyl stickers, and have a sip of something fun while you’re crafting.

Your ticket includes:

  • Two claw-style hair clips — we’ll have plain ones in plenty of colors plus some fun shaped clips to spark your creativity. Choose to just add gems to a small part, or cover the whole clip. We’ll have lots of samples.

  • A vinyl sticker (the kind that goes on your laptop or water bottle). We find these are a fun way to dip a toe into bedazzling — it’s kind of like coloring with gems.

  • A buffet of gems in a rainbow of colors, plus all the tools you’ll need, like wax picking pencils, gem trays and glue.

  • A few fun refreshments to round out the evening.

This workshop is open to women ages 18+. (Don’t worry, we’re planning a separate Clip and Sip event for our tween and teen friends.)

Broken Dish Mosaic Art

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 12 to adult
Led by: Stacey and Maddie Hammer (@locallycraftedshop)

Join mother-daughter duo Stacey and Maddie Hammer for a broken dish mosaic workshop.

In this two-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of mosaic art, and how to cut and shape ceramic dishes into useable mosaic tiles. Choose from either a house or bird shape as a base and glue on tiles to create a beautiful mosaic masterpiece.

All supplies will be provided, including a large selection of thrifted broken plates and traditional pre-cut ceramic and glass tiles. However, you're also welcome to bring one of your own special dishes from home.

Because mosaic glue needs 24 hours to dry before applying grout, participants will go home with instructions and a grouting kit that includes everything they'll need to finish their project.

  • Our favorite project of all time — a tiny bookcase. Choose all kinds of miniatures to fill your bookcase, from books to food to mini animals.

  • Fun and creative bookmarks (did someone say “sticker bombing”?!)

  • A book tote at our Patch Bar.

  • Book-themed flair buttons to decorate our totes.

  • Another new favorite — bedazzled book covers! (Or other book-themed bedazzling.)

  • And more!

All ages are welcome — we’ve had a great mix of players at our last two nights, which just adds to the fun. So bring your family, friends and neighbors to enjoy a fun and friendly evening.

Drop-In Community Mah Jongg

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 14 to adults
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Whether you learned Mah Jongg in one of our workshops or you've been playing for years we hope you'll join us for drop-in community games in our workshop space on the second Thursday of every month.

Introduction to Mah Jongg

Date and time: Wednesday, Feb. 11, and Thursday, Feb. 12
Duration: 2 hours each night
Ages: 18+
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

(Please note: This is a two-session workshop — Wednesday, Feb. 11, and Thursday, Feb. 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. both evenings.)

Crack! Bam! Dot! Come learn the ancient Chinese game of Mah Jongg (American style). This two-evening workshop introduces beginners to the basic rules and simple strategies necessary to master the game.

This is a two-part class: During the first night (Wednesday, Feb. 11), we will learn the basics of identifying tiles, identifying hands on the 2025 card, and learning the basic rules. When we meet again the following evening, we will review the information from night one and practice playing the game with other beginners. By the end of the class you should feel comfortable joining a low-stakes game.

Enrollment will include a National Mah Jongg league card (a $15 value that you'll use any time you play). And in true Mah Jongg tradition, snacks will be served!

This workshop is open to crafters ages 18 and older.

Valentine's Day Open Studio

Duration: 3 hours
Ages: all ages
Led by: Locally Crafted Workshop (@createatlocallycrafted)

Valentine’s Day is one of the best crafting holidays — who can resist a celebration of love and friendship? It’s the perfect theme for our February Open Studio, and we hope you’ll join us.

These monthly workshops are full of family-friendly, open-ended projects, and this time, all of our projects will be themed around the holiday — gifts, decor, cards and more.

As with all of our Open Studio events, we invite you to stay for a few minutes, or hang out all day. Bring a friend, a kid, a partner or come alone. Crafters of all ages will find something fun to make, we’re sure of it. This event is not just for kids! Adults are invited to get crafty with us, whether you've got a kid with you or not.

Our crafting stations this time will include:

  • A cute camper project all decked out for the holiday.

  • A Valentine’s spin on one of our favorite crafts — trinket collage!

  • A card-making station, of course!

  • And more that we’re still cooking up …

All the projects are open-ended, and ready for you to put your own spin on them. There will be no official instruction, but we will offer lots of inspiration if you need it.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. It helps us so much to know how many people to expect, so advance tickets are discounted! Crafters 4 and under are free, but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Needle-Felted Doughnut Magnets

Needle-Felted Doughnut Magnets

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 10 to adult (under 13 with an adult)
Led by: E. Foley (@foleysdogtraining)

Cute and calorie-free doughnuts? Yes, please! Join instructor E. Foley (@foleysdogtraining) for a simple and adorable project that is a perfect introduction to needle felting.

If you can hold a needle and stab with it, you can needle felt!

Needle felting lets you get out your frustrations by stabbing wool with a barbed needle to create art. In this workshop, you will shape your doughnuts (traditional round or heart), add “frosting” and “sprinkles” (100% wool!), and then finish it off with a magnet so you can stick them to your fridge at home.

Each student will receive:

  • Three barbed needles (and band-aids if needed)

  • Wool in a variety of colors to create two doughnuts and their toppings

  • A foam felting pad (your ticket price is discounted if you bring your own!)

  • Magnets

  • Printed instructions and tips for making your project shine!

This workshop is for crafters ages 10 to adult. For children, ask yourself, "Would I trust my child with a sharp, barbed needle?" If you would, they can come! Under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
