Knitting Crash Course

Duration: 2.5 hours
Ages: 14 and older
Led by: Becky Sher (@createatlocallycrafted)

If “learn to knit” has always been on your crafty bucket list, now’s the time to make it happen. In this new “crash course” format, you’ll join Becky Sher, co-owner of Locally Crafted Workshop and a knitter for more than two decades, to learn the basics of the craft. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or refreshing your skills, you’ll leave ready to tackle a real project. You’ll learn:

• The basics of choosing yarn and needles for a project.

• How to cast on stitches to begin knitting.

• How to perform the basic knit stitch.

• How to bind off when you’re finished a project.

This workshop is not meant to turn you into a knitter overnight. But it’s a good chance to try out the basics, get comfortable with the motion of knitting, and ask questions (you can’t do that on YouTube!). You’ll leave with the confidence to practice and further your skills at another class, or by tackling a simple project on your own.

Workshop includes a pair of circular knitting needles to take home and yarn for practice, along with other bits and bobs you’ll need along your knitting journey. Circular needles can be used to knit back and forth (for a scarf, coaster or dishcloth) or in the round (for a cowl or basic hat). All perfect next-step projects!
