After two fantastic sessions making mini bookcases, we’re ready to move on to our next bookish craft project: Bedazzled book covers! Look, you may not think you’re into rhinestones and bling, but in this case, you’re wrong. Trust us! You won’t believe how much fun it is to gemify your favorite reads, especially surrounded by other book lovers in our welcoming workshop space. With the right supplies in front of you, it’s an easy, social craft, and soon, no book (or anything else) will be safe from sparkles.
We’ll provide:
All the tools you’ll need, including wax picking pencils, gem trays and glue, plus tips on how to use them.
An entire set of thousands of rhinestones just for you! You’ll take home your set, which should be plenty to bedazzle at least a dozen books, probably more. You’re welcome to bring more than one book to the workshop (see details below) — the gems are yours, so you can use as many as you like.
Extra rhinestones in different sizes for added flair. (We’ll explain when and how you might use them.)
Snacks, drinks and a room full of other book lovers to chat with.
Important: YOU will provide the book(s)! Here are a few tips on choosing a book for optimal bedazzling success:
Hardcovers and paperbacks both work great.
Look for a book with good-sized chunks of color and simple shapes. Intricate designs will be tough; the gems are quite small, but not tiny enough to create extremely precise lines and shapes.
It’s up to you which parts you’ll bedazzle — just the title; specific artwork or graphics; random parts of an illustration; or the WHOLE DARN THING! Keep that in mind when you’re choosing.
You’ll have an easier time with book titles set in chunkier typefaces, as opposed to very thin fonts or script letters.
Your book doesn’t have to be fiction! Choose a favorite nonfiction book, a crafting book (!!) or a children’s book that your family loves. Bedazzled Dr. Seuss has our hearts beating faster.
Bring your book club buddies, your neighbors or even your teenage book lover to this evening of sparkly, bookish fun.
